Rihanna has debuted at number four in the US with her DJ Khaled collab Wild Thoughts which is great news for her but no so great news for the state of the charts this year.
RiRi is the first female in 12 weeks to debut in the top 5. The last to do so was Taylor Swift with her Zayn Malik collab I Don't Wanna Live Forever.
It's a pretty horrendous stat and one that doesn't get much better when you do some more digging. The last female to peak within the top 5 with a solo single in the US was RiRi again with Love On The Brain. Before that it was Katy Perry with Chained To The Rhythm followed by Lady Gaga's Million Reasons.
They're the only three to reach the top 5 this year.
In Australia, it's the same scenario. RiRi and Khaled's Wild Thoughts is the only song to feature a female in the top 5, however, Jessica Mauboy is currently sitting at the top of the iTunes charts with Fallin.
