We love a #NotTheOnion-type headline here at Cool Accidents and today, the internet has delivered.
A new study conducted by the journal Acta Tropica has found that Skrillex's huge dubstep hit Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites actually affects mosquitoes and their breeding and feeding habits.
Scientists found that when that particular song is playing, the Aedes Aegypti mosquito - which carries a lot of diseases, including yellow fever - was less likely to eat or reproduce. In particular, it's the song's low-frequency vibrations that are known to disrupt mating habits in insects. It reportedly makes it harder for the mozzies to receive signals from their hosts.
So basically, scientists can hopefully learn to use Skrillex's Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites to their advantage to develop a way to control these disease-carrying blood-sucking beasts.
The best part? We love the irony that a song referencing "scary monsters" is the one mosquitoes hate.
