It's been 40 years since iconic New Zealand group Split Enz released True Colours, the biggest album of their career - so it's time to celebrate.
To commemorate the occasion, a who's who of Australian and New Zealand artists have re-imagined the album on a project called True Colours, New Colours - The Songs Of Split Enz. It's set to be released on February 12th, 2021.
The album is set to feature the likes of Lime Cordiale, Robinson, Dual and Ladyhawke, as well as many more amazing Australian and New Zealand artists. They've each brought their own interpretation of a huge Split Enz track to the table, and the end result will blow you away.
Speaking about the project, Split Enz's Tim Finn says, “True Colours, New Colours features an eclectic group of artists who bring eccentricity and swagger to these tunes. Curated in a singular manner which eschews the obvious and turns up the attitude. Love it!”
You can check out the first track from the album, with Shihad covering I Got You, and adding their own signature rock flavour to the track, while remaining quite faithful to the original song (after all, the original is already absolutely superb).
Speaking about the cover, Shihad member Jon Toogood says, “As a kid Split Enz made me believe that you could be from NZ and still conquer the world if you made great music. We were honoured to have been asked to do one of our favourite Split Enz tracks I Got You for the upcoming tribute album."
