Only months after surprising us all with her 8th studio album, Folklore, Taylor Swift has shocked us yet again.
She's announced that she's releasing the "sister record", and her 9th studio album, Evermore, at 12am Eastern time on Friday, December 11th, which is equivalent to 4pm AEDST on Friday, December 11th.
The album is set to feature HAIM, The National and Bon Iver, who also featured on Folklore. Evermore has 15 tracks, and will include two bonus tracks on the physical copy.
Speaking about the album, Taylor posted on social media, "I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.
"I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them."
The album sees her working again with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon and William Bowery (aka her boyfriend Joe Alwyn).
The album is Taylor's way of marking her 31st birthday, which is just around the corner. 2020's been a wild year, and she's leaving us one last gift under the Christmas tree, for those who need it most.
In the Instagram caption for Evermore's tracklist, Taylor says, "Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now. You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something! I also know this holiday season will be a lonely one for most of us and if there are any of you out there who turn to music to cope with missing loved ones the way I do, this is for you.

To coincide with the album's release, she'll be releasing a music video for Evermore's opening song, Willow. She'll be premiering the video at 12am Eastern, and if you head along just before then, she'll be jumping in the chat to answer any questions you might have about the video, or the new album.
It's Taylor's 31st birthday on December 13th, and hopefully, she takes the time to celebrate. We feel like the ones getting a birthday present!
