We recently landed on the Soundcloud page of Island Riot after hearing a couple of tidy little dancefloor friendly re-edits he’d put together of two of our fave jams of 2015, Kendrick Lamar’s King Kunta (with Casual Connection) and the Mark Ronson & Kevin Parker collabo Daffodils.
Based on what we heard it was obvious that Island Riot aka Matt Hall aka a dude from Perth living in Toronto had a keen ear for taking party jams to the next level so we hit him up and asked if he’d put together a mix for us…
Luckily for us, and now YOU he was up for the challenge and the homie delivered in a BIG way serving up one of the downright funkiest mixes we’ve heard in a long time.
Get you earholes around his Dissin’ Ya Fly Girl mix below, cop a cheeky download so you don’t have to worry about a soundtrack for your next party and then read on for a breakdown of all the breaks themselves.
Kendrick Lamar - King Kunta (Island Riot & Casual Connection rework)
Did this rework with my good mate Casual Connection. I love the original but the progression of the track moves gradually away from that funky vibe that is so infectious so we stripped it back and rearranged it into a fat g-funk roller. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
Tuxedo - Number One Aint No Fun (Casual Connection rework)
Another rework from my man, Casual Connection. From the latest Tuxedo album chopped up into a club ready disco banger. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
Bipolar Sunshine feat. GoldLink - Future (Part 1)
This dude has an amazing voice. Partner that with the chill vibes and a verse by GoldLink and you have a very well rounded track.
Mark Ronson feat. Kevin Parker - Daffodils (Island Riot rework)
I threw this together not to long ago. A lot like the King Kunta edit the original goes in a very different direction to how it starts. I wanted to keep with that catchy funk guitar sound and make it a bit easier to play out, Kevin Parkers voice is incredible. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
G-Eazy feat. Devon Baldwin - Lets Get Lost (Louis Futon Remix)
This dude cant do much wrong right now. This is no exception.
ODB vs ESTA. - Jedallah Got Your Money (Island Riot edit)
DJing in Toronto I found people would always ask for classic hip hop, which I love but I got bored of playing originals. Especially being Australian I don’t have as much of a sentimental attachment to these tracks so i started knocking up cheeky mashups and edits of popular hip hop tracks over newer beats that i’m into. Everyone’s a winner that way.. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
GoldLink - Bedtime Stories
Short sharp funky house gold by GoldLink. My fave hip hop artist at the minute.
Keith Ape - It G Ma (LUCA LUSH Remix)
Luca Lush has to be up there right now as one of my favourite producers. He has his own style and he does it well.
Juicy J vs Pomo & Kaytranada - Cherry Funk Makes Her Dance (Island Riot edit)
This one is more about the beats than the vocal. The original can sometimes get lost on a dancefloor so added some Juicy J stank to it. Problem solved. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
Big Sean vs Real Slow - I Don’t Fuck with 1990 (Island Riot edit)
Unsure if I even like the original but who doesn’t like singing this track out loud. Adds a new spin to a very over played track. *FREE DOWNLOAD*
LDRU - Give It All
This is just a super fun little track which wouldn’t be out of place on the beaches of Jamaica. Produced by an Aussie too!
J Kwonn vs Real Slow - Drakes Tipsy (Island Riot edit)
See track 7 :) *FREE DOWNLOAD*
Grandtheft & Lambo – Butterscotch
Toronto local infusing some sax into a twerky sounding track but not as annoying as the run of the mill twerk music.
Marvel Alexander - Illest Nigga (Prod. Kaytranada)
My current favourite hip hop tune. Anything Kaytranada touches nowadays is guaranteed to be amazing.
Loston + Ta-Ku - No Reason
Two Perth dudes at the top of their games right now. This is easily top 3 favourite tracks right now. The vocals kill me everytime.
