Ever since I Got Burned became a fave of ours back in 2012 we’ve been keen to hear more from the musical combo of Tim Rogers & The Bamboos and luckily for us they’ve just come through with a whole new album.

The Rules Of Attraction sees the You Am I frontman team up with the funkiest band in all the land and serve up 12 scorchingly soulful tracks that reignite the sparks of I Got Burned and make for one hell of an album.

We caught up with Bamboos bandleader Lance Ferguson and got him to hit us with 10 jams that helped influence the sound of The Rules Of Attraction… The Jewels Of Attraction if you will… Click on the title below to stream the playlist.

    Chuck Brown “Blow Your Whistle”

This song has so much raw velocity that it’s like trying to hold on to a rocket. I first played this one to Tim in the studio and it immediately got added to the upcoming live tour set. Now I’m gonna have to go out and buy a whistle.

Delaney & Bonnie “Things Get Better”

A couple of years back we did the ‘Rock 'N Soul Medicine Show’ Tour together and Tim and Kylie smashed a great cover version of this 1969 gem. There’s nothing like a great duet – and this format definitely influenced tunes on the record like 'Did I Wake You?’

The Rolling Stones “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”

We recorded a cover version of this classic 'Stones song for U.K’s Mojo Magazine back in 2011, and it has stayed a fixture in our live sets ever since. Every great frontman has a bit of Mick Jagger in them, and when we play this with Tim he always completely tears the roof off!

    The Stone Roses “Fools Gold”

A few tunes on 'The Rules Of Attraction’ have a bit of an early 90’s U.K influence running through them - that classic mixture of angelic reverbed-out vocals, rough guitars and Funk drum breaks. We once played a show and were told The Stone Roses were going to show up. They didn’t and that night is now referred to as our 'Waiting For Guffman’ moment.

The Meters “Just Kissed My Baby”

When The Bamboos started out we were basically trying to BE The Meters (especially on their first three albums) This is a later recording that contains one of the greatest Wah Wah Guitar intros of all time.

    Beck “Sexx Laws”

Beck is a master of mixing seemingly absurd elements into one exuberant musical whole (he uncannily weaves Banjo into this song). He is always a great reference point when you want to inject something unexpected into a song that might otherwise become too 'safe’.

    Marvin Gaye “What’s Happening Brother”

    Albert King “Crosscut Saw”

This is a the 1974 version of Albert Kings all-time classic tune. Quite simply one of the best examples of when straight-up Blues meets Funk in all the right ways.

Dr. John “Right Place Wrong Time”

Stone-classic New Orleans Funk featuring the legendary Dr John backed by The Meters. The whole New Orleans sound has been so important for us over the years – and we once even got to play with the late-great Eddie Bo. You can hear that influence pouring through on the new record on tunes like: 'On Time’.

    The Impressions “We’re A Winner”

A lot of people have talked about Tim’s falsetto sound on 'I Got Burned’ and on the new record - It’s something that people maybe hadn’t heard him do before vocally. It’s such a sweet spot in his voice and I can definitely hear echoes of THE MAN Curtis Mayfield in there.

The Rules Of Attraction is available now where all scorchingly soulful records are sold | streamed.
