Yestersay, SAFIA unleashed their debut album Internal upon the world. It’s an album that pulls together all their influences from pop/rock to RnB/soul, all wrapped up in SAFIA’s own unique aesthetic.
It’s an envious position to be in for the release of a debut. They have already had eight singles, each one introducing them to new audiences and expanding on their own sound. They begun back in 2013 with Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues and have gone on to takeover the triple j airwaves and play sold out shows around the country.
Their Splendour In The Grass 2015 set really announced their arrival. With just five songs to their name, they played a mid-afternoon tent to a crowd that spilled out, clammering to get inside what ended up being one of the weekend’s most packed sets.
Internal is full of pounding, confident tracks that will make festival crowds go wild but also please headphone listeners. It’s an intricate and detailed listen, centring around frontman Ben Woolner’s huge voice.
It’s unlikely that you’re only just jumping on the SAFIA train now, but if you are we’ve put together an infographic that brings you up to speed. For those of you who are, this is a trip down memory lane to remind just how far the boys have come in three years.
SAFIA's Internal is available now, where all good records are sold/streamed.
