UK rockers Royal Blood flew through town recently and a bunch of us were lucky enough to be amongst the 1250 people (a number we arrived at based on the combined sold out capacities of The Corner Hotel in Melbourne & Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory) that got to witness the magic/mayhem that one of THE hottest bands in the world right now brings to the table.

Armed with our handy dictaphone we managed to catch a series of vox pops and quotables on the night that help paint the picture and will have you feeling sorry for yourself if you missed out on all the fun…

“They packed a heavyweight punch, but their pop sensibilities made sure it wasn’t a grueling bruising affair!”

“Royal Blood are the real deal. Three T’s to describe them….Tight, Tight &…Tight. F*#king Brilliant.”

“Like the infamous Nirvana Raymond house party that had about 100 people attending but thousands claim to of been at, I ‘was’ there for Royal Blood and it was all four to the floor face melting thunder riffs. We partied all night and they promised to play my nephews 21st before I passed out on the footpath of Oxford St.”

“Not a single laptop in sight, just some good ol’ fashioned ball breakin’ rock’n’roll A++”

“Life-affirmingly good. In awe of the visceral, butt-kicking wall of sound created from two men, a bass and drums. Wishing them all the success in the world sounds funny to say only ‘cos I feel it in my bones that it’s all gonna come to them over the coming months.”

“For two guys they know how to pummel your arse with a barrage of sound. That bass guitar has clearly sold its soul to the devil, and I’ve never seen a drummer smash the skins that bloody hard. To put it simply… EPIC! Can’t wait for their album - is it too soon to call ‘gig of the year’???”

“So fucking good!  One day we’ll be sitting in shitty seats in a huge venue, watching them saying remember when we saw them play to a handful of people at Oxford Arts Factory?!”

    “My new favourite band”

“2 piece my arse?! The whole time watching I was expecting the curtain behind them to drop and reveal another 5 or 6 musicians rockin’ out. The wall of sound they generate is INSANE.”

And last but not least regular Cool Accidents contributor Wax Volcanic sums it all up perfectly with this illustration -

Fingers crossed the boys will be back down under sometime soon, but in the meantime get your ears around the insta-classic Out Of The Black EP and watch this space for news on the forthcoming debut full length which is sure to be one of the best things to see the light of day in 2014.
