Teen girl sensations. They’ve been prolific for decades, whether it be thanks to Nickelodeon or Disney and I’m not knocking that but of late there seems to be an influx of mad talented girls storming our stereos. Is this a coincidence or a sign that the race to gender equality is coming to an end? From the mentioned Disney days where these undoubtedly talented girls were literally forced upon a world of showbiz, make-up, flashing lights and an immense pressure on appearance (cough cough Miley) to today where I see the likes of the to-come lasses and witness an abundance of pride, maturity and direction. This is a wonderful triumph me thinks.
BANKS Los Angeles based BANKS is a prime example of everything we should cherish. Smooth, delectable tone alongside a beauty most would kill for. And flaunt. Difference being the mystifyingly elegant poise she possesses. She even offers her phone number for people who want to talk in opposition to social media! Not to mention that this is a damn fine tune.
Hannah Reid of London Grammar, London Grammar is a pop trio of super-talent. Hannah Reid fronting this spectrum of delightful ooziness indie pop. A voice that even drives home an operatic dabble or two taxiing fans to whole new proportions. This is my precious from what’s surely one of the albums of the year.
Charli XCX Among London’s finest is Charli XCX who epitomizes art. Blending an array of musical influences to what yields an end product worthy of the acclaim she’s gathered following debut album True Romance. Yet once again an unblemished, attractive young woman.
Chloe Howl I dig the hell of this chick. Hip, humble and ‘holy shit’ talented. Fresh jams with a tone which is recognizable yet raw and edgy enough to be classed original. Typical of this fine breed we’re indulging in today. I’ve had No Strings in my head all week. Literally.
Lorde Who else to finish with but the biggest break-through artist of 2013? Lorde is still young and I hope so bad that this isn’t premature but she is an example for any young female looking to stand proud, stick to your guns and take over the world! It’s pretty ridiculous how somebody born just 16 years ago can write a pop song quite so perfect. Hail the next (already?) Queen of pop. Hence the full EP.
