Through a Glass... Darkstar-ly

  • Through a Glass... Darkstar-ly
    POSTED

A while back UK act Darkstar released their debut album “North” on the super cool Hyperdub records (also home to the wonderful Kooly G). It was a bit of a gem generally and included a song that lots of people raved about broadly called “Aidys Girl Is A Computer”

It was rather great and had more than a sense of radiohead’s sonic excursions into “glitch pop” about it. Now as they approach their “difficult” second album

They have moved across to Warp records for the new album ‘News From Nowhere’ and I’ve noticed that reactions seem a little less warm. The record is however rather good. And it didn’t stop them dropping this interesting mix for BBC as part of their promotional duties. It’s a good listen and gives more than a flavour of what they are about. So if you fancy discovering some new tunes today it comes with a recommendation:

    Here’s the track listing -

    Cluster and Eno: Schone Hande
    Massive Attack: Weather Storm
    Shabazz Palaces: Yeah You
    Nochexxx Feat. Sensational: Sinbliss
    Moodymann: Werk
    Autechre: Nil
    Micachu: Osilator Snaz
    Dizzee Rascal: Hold Ya Mouf
Rick 'The Godson’ Wilhite : City Bar Dancing (Basement Mix)

and just in case you missed it here’s the link to cop it - Darkstar Mix For BBC
