Venus II, the unlikely collaboration between Canyons’ Ryan Grieve and Eagle & The Worm’s Jarrad Brown, have unleashed their stomping debut album Inside Your Sun. It’s an expansive electro-rock opus that’s likely to melt minds, pump chests and make feet move simply by pressing play.
It’s brought out two very different sides in both artists with each forced to step into an unfamiliar musical territory. Their willingness to do so, however, has paid off in droves on this record which is a wild exploration of both electronic and rock n’ roll innovation. Aside from Jagwar Ma, it’s a genre that hasn’t been played with much since Primal Scream and Spiritualized but Venus II’s modern twist on it reminds of the boundless energy that comes bleeding out of electro-rock.
It’s the sort of record that will kickstart an evening and also close it when things have become hazy and the sun is closer to rising than setting.
