Sometimes, the internet is a dark, dark place. At other times, it’s a wonderful fountain of remarkable happenings. This story is about the latter.
It all starts with a 14-year-old girl, simply known as Emily, with one goal: to get Weezer to cover Toto’s ‘Africa’.
She initiated her objective by setting up a Twitter account by the name of @weezerafrica, which she used as a vehicle to pressure Rivers Cuomo and the rest of the band to cover the iconic song.

The campaign unsurprisingly took off, mainly thanks to the Twittersphere using the hashtag #WeezerCoverAfrica. This gave the cause considerable momentum and finally gained the attention of Weezer.
The band responded by covering ‘Rosanna’ (y’know, the other Toto song), and then, finally, followed that up with a cover of ‘Africa’.

Thanks to Emily, the rains in Africa have once again been blessed, and we have all learned the valuable lesson that persistence really does pay off.
