Fresh off of dropping his stellar new single Swing, we caught up with local emcee extraordinaire Dylan Joel and asked him to hit us with his desert island discs, which he broke off into two sections; HOP & NON HOP.
There was a rumour that R&B was off on a new tip with Frank Ocean and Miguel leading the way, and would be riding on the blunted beats that the likes of Clams Casino had produced up for ASAP Rocky and Kendrick. And there was no doubt all we hipsters loved those albums more than anything that had happened since D’Angelo swept the world before him.
Get out of my tent at 11am, jaw hurts from the past two days of partying. Brenno looks up and throws me a can. Suck it back, feel a bit better. Fluoro singlet is looking worse for wear. Take it off and throw it in a recycling bin. Chicks love to see my tats anyway. Almost time to head in.
Head in with the boys at 1pm. Would have got in earlier but took an hour to work out where my Kanye West Sunglasses were.
Scottish trio Biffy Clyro recently took the time to hit us with their unorthodox jukebox selections. Drawing from inspirational material and some current faves they’ve put together a solid playlist of 15 tunes including mostly rock classics from the likes of G'N'Rs, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Pantera but there’s even a little bit of Frank Ocean and Bjork in there for good measure.
Hot Damn. How much good R&B music is doing the rounds at the moment?! Frank Ocean and Miguel were on many a taste-makers best of 2012 lists and it looks like we’re in store for more goodness this year with new records expected from old faithfuls D'Angelo (fingers crossed) and Bilal.
I guess whenever a scene or genre is flourishing the floodgates open and along comes a whole heap of new talent and thank God it does as that’s when new kids on the block like BJ The Chicago Kid come into play.
He’s an all-around nice guy and as far as musical tastemakers go he’s one of the best in the biz so I guess we’re pretty damn lucky that he’s agreed to be our new UK Cool Accidents correspondent!
2012 was a winning year for electro and experimental bands – and we saw them come from all over the world. The big winners this year being Grimes, Purity ring, Crystal Castles, the xx, Beach House and our homegrown Flume (who has just recently inked deals in Europe and the US).
