So our dear friend St Jerome released the set times for Melbourne’s edition of Laneway Festival earlier today and considering the sheer bulk of talent announced there were always gonna be clashes but ever since first laying eyes on the run sheet my brain has been working overtime on a schedule which allows me to see my desirables. This is what I’ve come up with allowing five minutes for the commute:
I must admit I’m not the biggest fan of the latest Vampire Weekend record but I was drawn to ‘Step’, musically it reminded me of something Mark Mothersbaugh would compose for a Wes Anderson film.
And now I like it a whole heap more thanks to Danny Brown adding his charismatic flavour alongside another couple of up and coming emcees - Heems & Despot, what makes it all even better is the fact the band offered it up for free on their twitter account earlier in the year.
We’re pretty sure come this time next year a lot of people are going to be including Skaters debut ‘Manhattan’ in their end of year top 10 lists for 2014. We’ve really enjoyed the first tastes off it and have waxed lyrical about them numeroustimes on this here blog.
After listening to the new Danny Brown record the good people over at The Fader played the numbers game and broke the album down into basic digits, turning it into the info-graphic above.
We haven’t had a chance to digest the whole album yet ourselves but if the first single ‘Dip’ is anything to go by, it’ll be well worth a listen. Banger alert!
The new 'Old’ album is released digitally worldwide on October 8
