There are some people who get on with making interesting and important music year after year, quietly and without show. After a while they become familiar and you don’t pay enough attention, but that doesn’t make what they do any less good.
Diplo & Co gave Mungo’s Hi-Fi & So Shifty the stems for a bunch of jams off Free The Universe for them to do their thing to and they’re now giving them back to the universe for free. Cop that ish.
Today we say fare-thee-well to Junior Murvin… Probably best known for his 1976 tune Police and Thieves which features Murvin’s distinctive soaring falsetto. He passed away in his Port Antonio home this morning. Murvin’s Lee “Scratch” Perry produced album “Police and Thieves” is widely regarded as one of the “Holy Trinity”* records from Perry’s Black Ark period.
My oh my, it’s that time of year again my children. Bones, they be chilly. Fingers, frozen. Knees be a knockin’. Put some slow food in the pot and warm yourself with these delicious jams. That’s right, Mayor Goldie Wilson is back with another Mid-Winter Sound System. This Selection of 12”, 7” and dub versions of rare tracks are bound slow the heart rate to help you hibernate.
In the depths of this cold winter we must stay warm people. Some, wear their scarfs and woollen hats. Others don Snuggies, Snugglers and Toasty Wraps. You can stew the beef cheek my children, but the only true way to warm your bones is with one of Mayor Goldie Wilson’s Mid-Winter Sound Systems.
Sit back and radiate.
