The Gary Clark Jr Problem
We are really excited to hear the second Gary Clark Jr album and luckily it’s coming quite soon under the promising title of “The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim”.
Why?
We are really excited to hear the second Gary Clark Jr album and luckily it’s coming quite soon under the promising title of “The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim”.
Why?
So it happened. BB King went and left.
We sort of got to the point where we thought he’d always be here.
You know you’re famous when everyone knows the name of your guitar – and now Lucille will be lonely and a bit unloved…
Our recent love for Jose James’ blistering version of Strange Fruit reminded us of just what a great song that is. It’s political but not polemical, bubbles with righteous anger, and is as important in history as “Blowing In The Wind” or “The Message”.
There is no record out right now we’d rather rave about than C.W. Stoneking’s new thing “Gon’ Boogaloo”.
C.W has gone electric and it swings. Like a muthafucker actually. It’s great. The package is great. He looks great.
I don’t know why some good records that come out are talked about more than others, but there is usually some media heat around “Americana” releases that far outweighs their sales potential.
We like Gary Clark Jr. We have said so before.
And we like The White Stripes & The Black Keys (even if they don’t like each other). We’ve said that too.
But Benjamin Booker seems legitimately like the next thing
He’s followed his exciting opening shot Violent Shiver with Have You Seen My Son? and it’s all kinds of angry and great.
