US rapper Ty Dolla Sign might be the busiest artist in the world. Last year he dropped his excellent Free TC record and has since delivered countless features in the lead-up to his next project Campaign.
From Fifth Harmony to Kanye West, he's laid bars and hooks on a diverse range of songs, always managing to bring that very distinct Ty Dolla Sign flavour.
Campaign is one of his most politcally charged efforts to date, combining club tunes with soulful cries for freedom. It features Wiz Khalifa, Trey Songz, Migos, Travi$ Scott and Meek Mill and the only problem with it is that he can't feature on it himself.
He's one of the best feature artists around right now, so we though we'd look at the features he's dropped in the lead-up to Campaign.
A$AP Ferg - I Love You
A$AP Ferg and soul music don't really go hand in hand but there's a glossy, crisp cut at the tail end of his most recent record ALWAYS STRIVE AND PROSPER and unsurprisingly, it's this one that features Ty. Chris Brown delivers the hook in the chorus but Ty brings something much richer and melodic to the table at the end of the song.
Fifth Harmony - Work From Home
If you don't know Ty Dolla Sign chances are you know this song. This was Ty's big pop tune this year linking up with Fifth Harmony's surprisingly excellent Work From Home. He adds a gravelly final verse before the girls come back in and knock it into the stratosphere. He's one of the few rappers around who can kill the rap stuff and then jump on a pop track with ease.
Mac Miller - Cinderella
This is one of his most recent features. Ty delivers the hook on Cinderella - the centrepiece and highlight from Mac's most recent album The Divine Feminine. Sure Mac is good but this song would be nothing without Ty's soulful touches.
Diddy - You Could Be My Lover
Diddy's MMM project dragged on in parts but there was one song that instantly stuck and it was this one. It's Ty's voice you hear first once again laying down a juicy hook over wobbling bass and some funky synth work. It sounds so perfect that it's almost hard to say goodbye to him once Gizzle kicks in.
Jeremih - Paris (Who Taught You)
Ty jumped on Jeremih's ode to Paris off his latest mixtape Late Nights: Europe. Jeremih and Ty are the perfect match because they're both oozing with soul but Ty has rough tones and Jeremih has silken tones. Together they make Paris sound like heaven on earth.
PJ - Come Down
PJ is a soulful singer/songwriter and a newcomer to the scene this year. Her debut album Rare was an honest and personal project with only a handful of features. Still, she trusted Ty to jump on board for the elongated, gritty Come Down. He gets a couple of verses and not only adds star power but an extra texture to the song.
Kanye West - Real Friends
Kanye jumped on Ty's 2015 record Free TC so it's only fair that he returned the favour and what a return it was. Real Friends proved that Kanye was back and ready to smash it out of the park but this song would've just been bars upon bars if it weren't for Ty's incredible hook. Now that's a real friend.
