For what seemed like a decade D'Angelo’s name was always on those ‘Most anticipated albums of next year’ lists and just when we’d given up all hope of a follow up to Voodoo… BOOM! Out of nowhere he dropped Black Messiah late last year.
For a December release it sure did make a lot of end of year lists (recently we wondered where it’d be on those lists if it was released in January) but now that we’ve spent a little more time with it, we think the high praise was justified.
Just in case there was any doubt, D took to the stage to show he still has it (even if the washboard abs from the Voodoo days have softened) on Saturday Night Live recently. He performed powerful live versions of album cuts Really Love and The Charade which you can check below.
