Taking inspiration from Charli XCX’s latest single we’ve put together a playlist of jams tailor made for you to ‘Break The Rules’ to this weekend.

 

Once upon a time in the dark days of black & white London, the Blitz club arrived and brought us colour.

And people rode the tube looking like this:

Which was quite challenging on a Friday night on your way back from school.

The club was a scene, and you only got in if you were in it.

 

We were big fans of Anna Calvi’s first album Desire which had a delicious filmic element and tango-ness to it. Maybe it was the flavour of PJ Harvey-ness about her.

Sadly we didn’t love One Breath as much, and probably didn’t give it enough of a chance. It didn’t seem to sell so much either.

Anna was undaunted though and has been releasing a series of rather beautiful covers of which this take on Springsteen’s Fire is very good with its darkness a great contrast to the Pointer Sister’s version.
