It’s easy to get lost in the deep and fast moving current of electronic musicians in 2015 so what we’ve gone and done, see, is take the leg work out of it for you. No need to go Soundcloud trawling and blog hustling, we’ve chosen 14 of our favourite up and coming producers and put them all together in one spot so you can wrap your ears around some top level Australian talent. There are artists like Stephane 1993 making techno thumpers, producers such as Anatole incorporating vast swathes of orchestral and organic instrumental sound and esoteric wonderfulisms of Catlips, Coober Pedy Uni Band or Kucka. Between these few examples are gems a plenty so dive in, dive deep and prep yourself for the year to come in Australian electronic music.

Real name Jonathan Baker, this Sydney young blood dropped a particularly delicate slice of intelligent electronica in the form of his debut four track Westbrook EP in May last year. Plenty of sampled recorded instrumentation that’s been chopped apart and reformed atop thudding beats, sidechain all over the place. He then went on to drop an outstanding remix of Japanese Wallpaper’s Between Friends and now is due to release his follow up EP through upstart Sydney label TEEF this Autumn. Watch out.

Castlemaine via Melbourne via Perth via the Internet producer and arranger Ned Beckley aka Lower Spectrum works on a grand scale. His Traces EP was laden with strings, choral sections and colossal synth sections so as to make a hefty piece of production. His patience and ability to carefully craft a build without resorting to anything as Pavlovian as a ‘drop’ while still sounding fundamentally heavy is what sets him apart from his peers. Beckley also writes and arranges to brief, scores and soundtracks various productions and has now started producing for other artists. A force to be reckoned with.

Stephane 1993 has nearly as many labels as he does tracks – he’s only dropped the three tracks, now through two labels, one of which is Sydney’s own Stoney Roads. The tracks themselves are dark and caustic, hitting very hard but not overwhelming with the typical wall of sound. The three tracks are fairly diverse in terms of the sonic palette but across all three that same pulsing energy is consistent.

Tuff Sherm just recently dropped his latest effort in the form of Butter Sessions, a fairly bizarre take on futuristic house, produced in conjunction with fellow Australian Patch. The alter-ego of the notorious Dro Carey, Tuff Sherm is no newcomer to the scene and is fairly prolific in his output for both projects.

Osborn is a staple of the Perth beats scene, working with the two most tastemaker of Perth labels at various times, Die High and Pilerats. He works with precise clicks, snaps and pads, utlising ambient hums across the top of his productions to add warmth and often, uncertainty. He’s one of the more emotive producers of this list and demands feeling from the listener more than anything else. His highly sought after remixes through 2014 coupled with his many singles have built him to the perfect space to release his next body in 2015.

Catlips is Perth based producer Katie Campbell whose difficult to classify sounds span any range of experimental electronic genres. Her 2014 set at Perth Boiler Room announced her on a bigger stage and her singles on the fabled Pilerats Rat Pack compilations have earned her the respect of peers and punters alike while simultaneously she performs as part of Kuchka. Manipulating vocals in strange and wonderful ways, Catlips promises to surprise in 2015, if nothing else.

Leaks, is a singer-producer based in Melbourne who uses a variety of unique decaying beats, beautiful harmonic blends, and distinctive vocals to create an eccentric mixture of electronic, dub and new wave R’n’B music. His Jaunt EP, saw him receive high praise from established tastemakers such as XLR8R, THUMP, Do Androids Dance and triple j. He’s allegedly Melbourne’s biggest bad boy too.

Prequel is one of Melbourne’s finest selectors and now producers with his his debut release coming in the form of an EP titled ‘Polite Strangers’. Released on Bradley Zero’s imprint Rhythm Section. Prequel’s debut 'Polite Strangers’ is the perfect mix of jazz chops, house conventions and the just the right amount of groove. Receiving praise from some of the most renowned dance music taste makers such as Resident Advisor, Prequel definitely has the talent to continue to represent Australia in the international dance scene.

Kyson constructs some of the most beautiful sound-scapes you’ll ever hear. Every bit of ambience is the work of delicate work and extreme precision that immerses you deeper into his work. He’s currently representing Australia out of electronic music capital, Berlin and is signed to Friends of Friends.

'Kucka’ is easily making some of the best and freshest electronic music in Australia right now. Her vocals are the perfect compliment for her unique UK bass influenced production and her song-writing is superb too. Her record in 2014 was one of the more interesting electronic Australian releases of the year.

Planete’s production is absolute class and can hold up against some of dance music’s biggest names. His Silo Records debut 'Snow Sketch/Visions’ is an absolute masterpiece with both tracks taking you on a long rollercoaster of a journey. Planete has also shown that he’s an able remixer too with his Daphni like remix of Melbourne act, Lanks’ track 'Green Lights’.  He has potential to do big things, it’s just a matter of time really. 

These fellas know how to party that comes across pretty clearly in their music output. Tom Moore from Otologic & Tornado Wallace are two of the finest selectors Melbourne has to offer, and with a wealth of experience of getting a dance floor grooving under their belt through their own parties and other music projects, they now know what the people need and never let them down.

Lush vocals intoxicated in reverb drenched LA beats type production, Alex Ward’s side-project Moon Holiday is both interesting and fun.

We don’t know a whole heap about Sydney bedroom producer Kailo, but from a small sample size we are well aware of the fact that his beats KNOCK. I guess the best way to describe what we’ve heard so far is that he’s on that post Dilla tip but leaning more to the electronic side of things a la the UK’s Snakehips. There’s even been a few comparisons to arguably the greatest Australian electronic group of all-time, The Avalanches based on the way Kailo expertly flips samples.
