In this, the finally instalment of our “things that Death Cab say” series, DCFC guitar Chris Walla and drummer Jason McGerr  tells us about the bands they love, the bands they hang with and the bands that they were willing to let remix their music.

COOL ACCIDENTS: Once upon a time I heard that you guys use to have BBQs with the guys out of the Shins. Is that true or did that never happen?

JM: There was a bunch of rock’n’roll softball games where we often wound up at BBQs. Bands like Pretty Girls Make Graves, Pedro The Lion, umm… it’s hard to remember but look, whenever we’re on tour with friends from back in the day, bands that have stood the test of time, who are still making records, we all share so much in common in terms of the amount of miles we’ve put on our bodies and our vehicles and our instruments that the best thing we could do is to hang out and do something like a BBQ, that has nothing to do with music and just remember why we’re here. So I think that anytime there’s an opportunity to play with a ball or basketball or kickball, or anything that doesn’t have to do with playing a show we jump at the opportunity, so that might have come from something you heard around that. Like, there was a legendary wiffleball game slash BBQ after a show.

COOL ACCIDENTS: So how did you choose who would remix you’re album? Were the friends for the most part?

CW: Well not really… A couple of them were sort of curated I guess. Andrew Maury [RAC] was somebody that we approached to do the Some Boys remix and he was the first one to submit. We were stoked. It was kind of a wishlist, and it was really nice to see who came through. It was really cool.

JM: Cut Copy was the second submission

TF: That’s one of ours, we were proud of that

JM: Yeah that was excellent. It turned into a really great thing that remix EP.

COOL ACCIDENTS: If you could recommend one band for the readers of Cool Accidents, that we might not know here in Australia, who would it be?

CW: Oh… I don’t know, there’re friends of ours and I’m obviously a little biased because I put the record out on my label but they’re called the Lonely Forest-

COOL ACCIDENTS: Oh I think I’ve heard their track ‘Turn Off This Song’, is it called? That’s a great song.

    CW: Yep, yep, great! Great!

COOL ACCIDENTS: It’s hard to get that record out here, I’ve been trying to get it in stores but I don’t think it’s seen an Australian physical release

CW: I know it hasn’t be made a capital P priority by anybody so… except for me. I mean, yeah, I love them.
