Anderson .Paak is always keeping busy, and he's taken to Instagram to hold a fake press conference announcing his new record label. It's a great example of his sense of humour, while also conveying what the ethos of the label will be.
The label, which is called Apeshit, is actually a name with a lot of meaning. Speaking during the press conference, he says the name is partly an acronym, “Anderson .Paak Empire”, and partly a reference to the fact that “we on some other shit.”
In a press release celebrating the launch of the label, .Paak highlighted the types of artists he's looking to sign. “The label will look to raise the bar on music with its selection of artists, no gimmicks, no button-pushing, just raw talent.
“I was going to shows and realized that less and less I was seeing actual performers … Where is the next generation that can play instruments?? I know they’re out there – don’t sell your instruments, this label wants to hear you!!”
The news comes as .Paak prepares to release an album with Bruno Mars as Silk Sonic, with An Evening With Silk Sonic due to drop on November 12th. Paak is always hustling, and this announcement adds another string to his bow.
He rounded out the fake conference by speaking about the music industry, saying, “The game is crazy, man. This industry can be like a jungle... If the industry is like the jungle, well I guess we got no choice but to go apeshit.”
