For much of the past year or so, clubs around the world have been shut down and yet, the music has carried on. While pop music has upped the pace, keeping moods high with the disco and house revival, the remixes have gone even harder.

Whether you're actually able to hear these in a club or simply looking for something to soundtrack your next living room boogie, these are the remixes that have got us through, taking great songs and making them even better.

Kinder - Bus Stop (Mashd N Kutcher Remix)

If Bus Stop wasn't already a big enough jam, another Australian duo has given it a remix. Mashd N Kutcher has given it a floor rattling redo that takes it into the world of house and disco. Just when you think it's time to whip out the disco ball though they detour into a land of dark, distorted beats. Save this one for your late-night playlists.

Dua Lipa - Cool (Jayda G Remix)

Last year, Dua Lipa did the impossible and upped the danceability of her Future Nostalgia record. The Blessed Madonna curated a collection of great remixes but none stood taller than Jayda G's Cool remix. She had a great year last year with the release of Both Of Us and she brought a similar effortlessness to the Cool remix. More than suitable for the title, it's a breezy, sunny take on an already great song.

Remi Wolf - Rufufus (Sylvan Esso Remix)

Remi Wolf dropped a whole remix EP this year, taking her already wonky pop songs into an even wilder world. This Sylvan Esso of Rufufus completely reimagines as the song as a twisted disco tune. Once a soulful ballad, the remix takes it into four-to-the-floor territory and it may be even more instantly likable than the original.

Lady Gaga - Free Woman (Honey Dijon Remix)

Free Woman and Honey Dijon together is honestly too good to be true. Honey Dijon is the Queen of electronic music that makes you feel completely liberated while still keeping it cool. The chopped and re-arranged remix of Free Woman does exactly that, offering up a beat that shakes and rattles while Gaga claims her dominance of the dancefloor. This is the dancefloor she fought for afterall.

Doja Cat - Streets (Disclosure Remix)

After their excellent work with Khalid, it's hard to believe Disclosure haven't officially collaborated with Doja Cat given both their penchants for combining dance and R&B. The next best thing is a remix of Doja Cat's runaway Hot Pink hit Streets. Disclosure take it into the house world, giving the sleek R&B song pace and energy.

Ashnikko - Slumber Party (Anna Lunoe Remix)

With Anna Lunoe at the helm, Slumber Party is suddenly no slumber party at all. This one is rooted in the club, giving us a smack-hard beat that makes you imagine your feet squelching on a sticky club floor. It's dirty, grinding and it goes really damn hard.

A.G. Cook - XCXPlex (With Charli XCX)

Fans may have been surprised to not see Charli XCX on any of A.G. Cook's 8 (8!!!) albums released over the past 12 months given their close history of collaborating. Luckily, he had something in store, getting Charli to step onto the remix of Apple's Xxoplex. Appropriately retitled Xcxoplex, it's a dizzying rush of euphoria that arrives in a flurry of rave synths and bouncing beats.

Griff - Black Hole (Black Saint Remix)

Griff's Black Hole is one of the best pop songs of the year so far. Tampering with it is a risk but Black Saint manages to bring a completely different vibe to it. Dare we say, his pulsating remix of the song is even darker than the original, twisting Griff's voice into a haunting, echo that ruminates across the beat.

MARINA - Venus Fly Trap (Feat. Tove Lo & Kito)

MARINA's Venus Fly Trap is already spectacular but this all-female remix maybe even better. Australian producer Kito gives it a funky renovation while Tove Lo brings her sharp-tongued pop lyrics to a new verse. Together, they look like they could reboot Charlie's Angels.

S.G. Lewis - More Than A Woman (Edit)

Disco reboots are all the rage this year and S.G. Lewis took on Bee Gees' More Than A Woman after it took off on TikTok. You have to be careful when dealing with a classic and Lewis is appropriately respectful. This edit gives the '70s song a fresh coat of paint with glossy beats that move it along with just a little more oomph.

merci, mercy - Fall Apart (MELVV Remix)

merci, mercy broke through last year with her excellent debut EP no thank you, no thanks. She then followed that up with a collection of remixes that have resonated with fans. None more so than MELVV's intergalactic take on the second single Fall Apart. It's gentle and woozy, easing you into a hypnotic spell that's maintained by Merci's soothing vocie.

Boney M - Rasputin (Majestic Remix)

Speaking of the disco revival, Boney M's Rasputin is unexpectedly leading the charge. Majestic's beefed-up remix of the song has shot onto charts around the world, soundtracking the return to dancefloors. The chorus blares out even harder now, making sure that the dancing masks the truly bizarre lyrics.
