With the new Justice track out this week we thought we’d take a neon flashback to where the blog house sound began and the records that ruled the Hype Machine charts.
2006, the year that blog house broke. All we talked about was what was #1 on Hype Machine, how much the latest Soulwax mix would change the world and who was Hipster Runoff (I had money on a member of Vampire Weekend). Music blogs such as Discobelle, Brooklyn Vegan, Pitchfork and from Australia Electorash, Whothehell, Stoney Roads and hyperbole paved the way for the place to premier your new mix by Van She Tech, GLOVES, or ANYTHING on Bang Gang. Clubs nights like Onelove (backroom) @ The Prince, Bang Gang @ 77, Sneaky Sundays @ Hugos and The Monastery in Brisbane was where we were every week. Ksubi (or was that Tsubi then?), PAM, Fat Clothing Stores, Schwipe. Fluro at Parklife the year Busy P hosted. So. Much. NEON. Kayne shutter glasses. AJAX (RIP Dance Legend), Dangerous Dan, Acid Jacks. Everyone knew a club promoter (and 200 Dj’s). We had all just joined Facebook.
Life was simple, always remixed and had to be a low quality mp3.
Here’s a few of our favourite tracks from the blog house era, that deserve a fresh dusting off and a low res YouTube spin :)
MGMT - Kids (Soulwax Mix)
Scenario Rock - Skitzo Dance (Justice Mix)
Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning (Cut Copy Mix)
Gossip - Standing In The Way of Control (Soulwax Nite Version)
Riot in Belgium – La Musique
