Delving into the archives we came across the Electro special of The Face (an uber-trendy music and style magazine from the 80s) complete with its beautiful Neville Brody designed cover above. It took us back and we got all sentimental for a time when Kraftwerk were the most influential dance act in black music (Just to remind you here’s Shep Pettibone fresh from Kiss 98.7 (not to be confused with KiiS1065) smashing Bambataa and Kraftwerk in a piece of delicious mixology from 1982) and every TV show had kids body poppin’ and doing the robot, or spray painting walls outside their local Bunnings warehouse.

In those days all the 12’s came pre-mixed on albums like Street Sounds Electro which looking back may well have been bootlegs but at the time we saved up for (and which even now are worth collecting).

Around the same time everyone turned their baseball caps backwards, and wore puffa jackets. All style and hanging round import record shops for new 12 inches we couldn’t afford.

The best part is, it all still sounds modern today which you’ll hear if you check out this brilliant Electro Science mix by The Freestylers we found on Soundcloud.

    Jam on the groove!

Just one grumble though… Yes, Rock It sounds good and yes Rockers Revenge is still the best tune ever, but no Warp 9 guys? They’re too good to leave out so we’ll leave you with their jam Nunk (New Wave Funk) HERE.
