Māori-Australian rapper Day1 has once again showcased his worth as one of Australia's most exciting RnB exports with his latest single, Dubai. Embracing his trademark melodic flow, spitfire rhymes, and menacing production style, it's a brooding piece of slow-burning hip-hop excellence, with the track giving us all a glimpse into his lavish life.
Paired with a set of cinematic visuals directed by Justin UY, Dubai ticks all the boxes as it welcomes us into Day1's world, showing his jet-set life on the road, in the studio, and in the club.
Inviting the listener into the true Day1 experience, Dubai shows us what the beauty of remaining true to yourself and sticking with your goals can do, with a love of hip-hop seeing the continuously-rising Brisbane-based rapper expanding his reach and finding himself in the picturesque surrounds of Dubai. "From nothing to something, play this in Dubai, hits different," Day1 says of his journey.
Dubai is just the latest in a string of successful singles for Day1, including the recently-released Mbappé, featuring Kahukx. Since its release back at the end of June, it's managed to become one of his biggest tracks to date, reaching #17 on the ARIA Charts, and hitting #25 on the Aussie Shazam charts.
Needless to say, it's showing just how much of a massive appeal that an artist like Day1 has managed to curate in just a few short years. Having kicked things off back in 2019 with the release of his Platinum-certified banger Boss, even the likes of a global pandemic haven't held down an artist like Day1, who instead of retreating pivoted to make some of the best music of his career.
