In a stunning cover feature in Harper's Bazaar, Cardi B has just opened up about life as a new mum battling post-partum depression, her troubled relationship with husband Offset and her rocket-powered rise up the hip-hop ranks.
Cardi explains that since giving birth to her first daughter, Kulture Kiari last year, she doesn't care about anything anymore. “I feel like my life is a fairy tale and I’m a princess — rags to riches, people trying to sabotage. Before, I cared about everything — relationship, gossip. Now I don’t feel like I have the time to please people.
“I don’t care about anything anymore — just my career and my kid."
The interviewer chats to Cardi in her regular nail salon, setting a lovely casual scene for the chat, and we're guessing this puts Cardi in a more comfortable space to open up. She shares that after having Kulture, she spiralled into a post-partum depression.
"I thought I was going to avoid it. When I gave birth, the doctor told me about postpartum, and I was like, ‘Well, I’m doing good right now, I don’t think that’s going to happen.’ But out of nowhere, the world was heavy on my shoulders.”
She also candidly shares changes she's felt in her body after giving birth: "For some reason, I still don’t feel like my body’s the same. I feel like I don’t have my balance right yet. When it comes to heels, I’m not as good at walking anymore. I feel like I’m holding a weight on me. I don’t know why because I’m skinnier than I’ve ever been. But there’s an energy I haven’t gotten back yet that I had before I was pregnant. It’s just the weirdest thing.”
On Offset, Cardi explains that it's hard to date (and she doesn't want to yet) so soon after her split with the Migos rapper. Despite that, she says "you never know" if she'll reunite with him.
Candid interview aside, Harper's have organised some insanely amazing photos for the cover story, running with the rags-to-riches theme of Cardi's fast rise and outfitting her in outfits inspired by Cinderella, Mulan, Rapunzel and more.
