A new study has found that fish were being traumatised by the loud music at EDM Festival Ultra Music in Miami.
As Pitchfork reports, the University Of Miami conducted a study on the toadfish and the decibels at the water on an island near the festival.
They found that the loud music caused “a significant stress response” to fish in the water also noting that there was a “4-to-5-fold increase in blood cortisol, their main stress hormone, during the first night of the Ultra Music Festival.”
“The stress response was higher than what would be experienced when being chased by a simulated predator and similar to when hearing bottlenose dolphins, a toadfish predator,” said Danielle McDonald, a professor from the uni.
The uni has actually made their concerns clear to organisers of the festival. An advisory board has since recommended that the festival be moved from Virginia Key, the island just off Miami where the festival is held.
Organisers have announced today that the festival will relocate to a new home in South Florida.
