FKA... Not Just a Clever Video

Today we can reflect on how quickly time passes in the music business. One year ago Justice Crew “Boom Boom” was number one in Australia. Could it really be 12 months between that classic and the current top hit “Wake Me Up” by Avicii? It seems just yesterday…

Moving on it’s about the same time ago that we were enthusiastic about the first track by UK singer Twigs. We loved on “hide” because it hit the right spots, and not just because of its clever video with its rather memorable imagery…

    Remember it at all now?

Then Twigs disappeared for a while into the hole called “Artist Development” and we heard nothing. It’s a dark place that one, and as a fan all you can do is wait in hope. It is a wait full of breathy anticipation and occasionally it is a thrilling shock to see where your little crush evolves too.

Twigs has come back full of excitements. Firstly she isn’t Twigs any more! Now she is called FKA Twigs which sounds very exotic. Until you know it just approximates Formerly Known As. Sort of a Prince touch after one soundcloud EP.

And there is a new image in Frieda Khalo-esque day-glo where she looks exotic and incredible.

But best of all is new music. ”Water Me” is a collaboration with Arca (also a “helper” for G-d on Yeezus) and it has all the best bits of “Hows That” and “Hide” but it’s a bit better. Which is clever.

Life would improve if she comes back before another Justice Crew single.
