Focus On The Local - Jesse Davidson

We’d best start at the start with Jesse Davidson because in terms of a career arc, he’s truly right at the beginning. Heck, at 17 he’s pretty much right at the start of his whole life trajectory so you’d forgive him if he was making utter drivel- but he ain’t.

He garnered some early love through Triple J Unearthed High 2012 with two downtempo numbers, ‘Flaws’ and ‘Winter’ before the JD camp went silent for nary of a year which was probably the HSC or something, I don’t know. On Monday of this week he returned with serious aplomb, with new track ‘Big Bois Gotta Eat’ a seriously declaration of intent. The internet love has been no small thing since and the smorgasboard of references has included Mac Demarco, Grizzly Bear, Jeff Buckley, Local Natives, The Antlers and Ducktails.

The entire project seems an insane paradox to me, with such a relative youth making music so developed and mature. A sound so serious yet a facebook presence so fiercely absurd. We’ll keep you posted on more from this kid as it comes but for now you’ll have to content yourself with Big Bois (below) and the brace of tracks on his Unearthed.
