Halsey's New Song 'Nightmare' Goes Back To Her Punk Roots

    Halsey

After finally closing the chapter on her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom chapter which saw her latest single Without Me shatter charts for over six months, now Halsey is back with the newest song in her next era and surprisingly, it's a heavier, punkier release.

The New Jersey singer started teasing Nightmare a few weeks ago and it almost feels like an extension of her single 11 Minutes with Yungblud and blink-182's Travis Barker - Nightmare is backed with a nu-metal-esque drum beat and distorted guitars, a grittier electronic sound and angsty vocals.

Halsey's vocal about having grown up in the pop punk scene, attending Vans Warped Tour and listening to bands like All Time Low, The Story So Far and Panic! At The Disco before becoming one of the world's biggest pop stars, so it's no surprise that the influence has seeped into this new release.

The video is badass to the brim too, featuring models Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse and none other than the godmother of punk, Debbie Harry, in cameos.

Halsey's anger is palpable and given this week's news about the abortion bans in the US, it feels like this feminist anthem has landed at a perfect time. She's been outspoken about the topic in the past and also expressed her "sickening rage" about this week's news.
