Dishing out a delectable mixture of alt-hip hop, rock and rap, there are several reasons to be excited about Grammy-nominated US artist K.Flay this week, particularly as she's here for Splendour In The Grass.
Here are five.
Solutions is out now
A brand new album hit us last Friday and has been on repeat since. It features the singles Bad Vibes and Sister and, like all K.Flay magic, has pure pop choruses combined with dirty synths and her sharp-as-a-tack lyrics. We’re hooked on her hooks.
She’s here, in Oz, right now
With sideshows this week (we’re going to the Sydney show at Oxford Art factory on Wednesday night and cannot wait to get sweaty), as well as Splendour this weekend – K.Flay is a must-see live act if you love charisma and high-energy. Tour dates here.
Her album cover is a tattoo
K.Flay revealed on her Instagram this week that she worked on the art concept for Solutions with Berlin-based tattoo artist Rozita, who she then flew to L.A. to make it permanent.
Purple is the new black
Wearing all lilac prison suits, the all-female cast in the video for Bad Vibes escape the correctional facility. K.Flay told Billboard, “We wanted to capture what it means to be trapped inside your own negative psyche -- and how it might feel to break free.”
Everyone wants to be her friend
K.Flay’s list of collaborators is next-level and diverse. From Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello and blink-182’s Tom DeLonge, K.Flay has guested on tracks and written with some rock icons, all the while bringing her fresh and quirky vibe to completely modernise their signature styles.
