While Kendrick Lamar fans are hoping he's preparing to release new music in 2022, he's getting creative in a different way, teaming up with South Park's creators to produce a movie.
Kendrick and fellow pgLang co-founder Dave Free have teamed up with South Park's Matt Stone and Trey Parker to produce a live-action comedy movie, written by Vernon Chatman.
Kendrick and Dave are producing the film through pgLang, which launched in 2020. The mission statement written by pgLang says they're looking to "build stories that are equally accessible and engaging, then fitting them within the best media." They are not a record label, movie studio or publishing house, but instead, they're "at service to creators", according to Dave.
The synopsis for the film, which is being distributed by Paramount Pictures, reads, "The film will depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his." Intriguing, to say the least.
There aren't many more details available about the film, with no director attached yet, nor is it known if Kendrick will appear in the film. He's previously flexed his acting abilities, having appeared in 50 Cent's TV show Power back in 2018. Starring alongside 50 Cent, Kendrick played the introspective Laces, and wowed fans with his performance.
