Ever been a third-wheel on a date with two friends and felt like your heart was blowing up every time they cooed over and kissed each other? Maggie Lindemann has, and she's chosen to depict the feeling with an epic action-packed music video.
Basically her hot pink convertible is a metaphor for her heart, consistently thrown off cliffs and bursting into a mass of flames every time she remembers she's alone in love.
The director Van Alpert explains, "My goal was making a video feel bigger than life, something that you'd only see in a movie theater. A little escape from your life while you watch. I wanted the car to be a representation of Maggie's heart. The car crashing, bouncing and exploding in artistic ways gives you an overall excitement feeling when you watch it. When you lose your mind from being excluded from your friends or love, your heart goes through it, just like the car.
"I strayed away from the obvious storyline, with the backbone being multiple beautiful crashes where no-one gets hurt. It's just a vibe. The video is fun and surprising. It hits you over the head and gives you clues throughout the video of what's coming. It was the most fun I've ever had making a video, and my favorite part is watching it over and over, each time getting better and finding little gems."
It's relatable AF and that's not surprising because Maggie is relatable. If you're not familiar, Maggie is a 20-year-old singer from Texas whose 2016 single Pretty Girl caught the attention of millions around the world (its video has 93 million views). Like Halsey or Billie Eilish, she flirts with the idea of being an anti-pop star and dispels the idea that a female artist has to look or sound a certain way.
We're a fan - and so is Zedd. She's even been seen working with blink-182's famed drummer Travis Barker.
