You may not know who Max Frost is, but we're sure as hell you know his upbeat, positive song Good Morning. The song has been featured on a slew of ads for its insanely catchy, horns-laden attitude and we're not surprised people are loving it.
The song's found itself on a whole heap of Google ads in Australia, has also been featured on Pepsi's Bubly drink ads and soundtracked on Network Ten's massive rebrand.
It's not Max's only foray with Australia though, back in 2013 his song White Lies cropped up at #43 on triple j's Hottest 100.
So off the back of last year's release of Gold Rush, we caught up with Max on what he's up to these days, how he feels about Good Morning still connecting with fans and more.
Good Morning came out almost 18 months ago but it’s still resonating with fans all over the world, did you know it would be such a hit when you wrote it?
I had NO idea! I was making a lot of music at the time and wasn’t stopping to think much. I remember not even wanting to play that song for anybody! But I’m lucky to have a good team that stops me from burying stuff like that and saves it from slipping through the cracks!
What do you think it is about the song that is so uplifting and positive?
Well there’s something charging and joyous about the beat. That’s where the song all started. From there I was sort of trying to just write a morning party song. All the party songs are about the night, the club, etc. So I was thinking “how about one for the brunch party?” Haha!
The song just got synched to a huge Google Australia ad campaign, what are your thoughts on it?
I’m always flattered and excited to see a song I’ve made be given an opportunity to be heard by more people.
You have some big fans here in Australia, your song White Lies was a huge hit on triple j. Have you ever visited us and what would you do when you do come here?
I’ve been over there a few times! I played shows in Sydney and Melbourne a couple years back and I’ve been back since then to write songs. I love the artist community there! In fact, I wrote two of the songs on my debut album (Money Problems and Slow Jamz) in Brisbane during BIGSOUND!
What have you been working on since last year’s Gold Rush?
I’ve been touring so much since last year that I haven’t had much time to work on new music, but I’m hitting the studio as soon as I’m off next month and plan on releasing new music before end of year!
You’re on the road currently in the US, what’s been the highlight of your tour so far?
I just love that I’m at a place in my career where my crowd knows all my songs. It feels like there are no dead moments. Takes a lot of work to build an audience that is that familiar and loyal.
What albums have you been listening to recently and what’s an album we should check out?
I’ve been listening to the new Chance The Rapper album The Big Day non stop!!!
