Mutemath Return to Australian Shores

  • Mutemath Return to Australian Shores
    POSTED

If you’ll cast your mind back to May this year you may remember words spoken about an American band called Mutemath. Out here for the 2012 Groovin’ The Moo festival, Mutemath blew minds at each and everyone of their sideshows with their peculiar blend of blues and post-rock. Their songs blew out into psychadelic romps that never became overly tangential by virtue of some astoundingly clipped drum parts and delightfully pointed guitar licks. Maybe you were even lucky enough to catch them, in which case you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say that their live set is unmissable. The good news is, they’re coming back! (see full run of shows below)

Such is their excitement to see Australian soil once more that they’ve shared with us their ten favourite songs by Australian artists. Starting at 10…

    MUTEMATH’s TOP 10 AUSSIE SONGS

    10. THE MIDDLE EAST: “Blood” - Beautiful track. Makes me want to rush off tour back home to my family.

    9. THE AVALANCHES: “Frontier Psychiatrist” - Fun track. I want to hear it mashed up with a Beastie Boys vocal.

    8. BIG SCARY: “Bad Friends” - One of the acts that we had a fun time with them during 2012’s Groovin’ the Moo Festival. This track is has an epic feeling with a strange, calming sense.

    7. TAME IMPALA: “Solitude is Bliss” - Cool sounds and vibes.

    6. THE VINES: “Get Free” - I just want to play this main riff over and over, and it doesn’t get old to me. WTF?

    5. AC/DC: “Highway to Hell” - A taboo song that I’d sing loudly when no one was looking.

    4. INXS: “Don’t Change” - A cool tune from their third album, that probably would be popular today.

    3. MIDNIGHT OIL: “Beds Are Burning” - I think of 80’s MTV when I hear this song, and somehow back then it cut through all the shallow 80’s bullshit.

    2. BEE GEES: “Morning of My Life” - My father loved the Bee Gees, especially for their harmonies, and this track is a highlight of their talent.

    1. CROWDED HOUSE: “Don’t Dream It’s Over” - Instant classic. Enough said.
