Outkast's Big Boi has revealed that they were working on a collaborative album with A Tribe Called Quest before Phife Dawg died last year.
A Tribe Called Quest released their final album We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service last year while Outkast haven't released an album since 2006's Idlewild.
It turns out though, they came very close to releasing one together, even going as far as picking out beats for it.
“We were talking about doing a Tribe Called Kast album,” Big Boi told US radio station Hot 97.
“It was real. Q-Tip flew to Atlanta, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, we all met at Dré’s house. We got to the point of picking out beats for the album. Then, some kind of way, everybody started doing stuff, and then Phife… you know, so… It was happening though. It definitely was happening.”
André 3000 featured on We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service but apparently there are also unreleased tracks floating around that feature Big Boi and Phife Dawg.
“[His passing] was super sad for one because he had just been down in my studio with me, Stankonia. We actually got a couple records that me and Phife did together, ya know what I mean? Oh yea, I’m gonna put ’em out too.”
Amazing.
RIP Phife.
