UK rising star PinkPantheress has been announced as the winner of the BBC's Sound Of 2022. The win follows the release of her debut project, To Hell With It, which features garage-influenced pop tracks that whiz by at breakneck speed.
130 industry experts voted as part of the Sound Of 2022, including Billie Eilish, Sir Elton John and Billie Eilish. Past winners of the award include Adele, Years and Years, Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding, so PinkPantheress is in very good company.
Speaking to the BBC about winning the Sound Of 2022, she revealed that she was inspired to become a musician after seeing Paramore play at Reading Festival.
She recounted that "I was 15, right at the barrier and Hayley Williams just looked like she was enjoying herself so much. Then I realised she's getting paid on top of that! I was like, 'I want to do this.' It changed my perspective."
Paramore have been a significant part of PinkPantheress's musical journey. Before she began making music as part of the PinkPantheress project, she was in a band as a teenager, where she covered tracks by Paramore, My Chemical Romance and Green Day.
