We're loving the badass, female empowerment tunes that are coming out thick and fast lately. While Janelle Monae, Cardi B and Anne-Marie are torchbearers overseas, back home, Western Sydney rapper Kymie is slaying it on her song Needs, which we're stoked to premiere the video of today.
Shot on Cronulla's sand dunes with a rugged Jeep, contrasted with Kymie's glam AF outfits, Kymie flexes her self-love and don't-need-no-man attitude in spades. The song itself was produced by Kwame which should explain why it has such a sick beat and clean production.
Speaking to Cool Accidents, Kymie says, "The Needs music video was my first music video, so you can believe how excited I was for this whole process, and now as we sit with the final product, looking back at it, it was such a dream creating it!
"The concept is simple, I initially wanted the whole thing to be straight b-roll, filled with slow motion shots, but when we got on set, it felt so natural and I just went for it and gave it my all. We shot the whole music video in Cronulla with majority being at the sand dunes, while the sun was setting it was so magical.
"I was very fortunate to have collaborated with Thugxurious who styled the music video helping it take it to the next level. Working with Risers Media was so smooth, we just vibed the whole thing, we even had a scene in the rain, unfortunately it didn’t make the cut!"
With backing from triple j, Spotify and Apple Music playlisting already, Kymie's definitely turned heads so we'll just have to see what 2019 has in store for her.
