Hip-hop music comes faster than any other genre. It's not uncommon for a rapper to drop upwards of three projects a year and while that's great, it becomes increasingly hard to stay on top of it. 'The Rap Wrap' is our attempt to keep you in the know on the weekly. This week, we're giving you our fave new Chance The Rapper cut plus Brockhampton's return.
Aya Nakamura - Pookie (Remix) (feat. Lil Pump)
She doesn't have much of a profile here in Australia but Aya Nakamura is the most streamed French female artist in the world. Though she sings entirely in French, this catchy track features a verse from Lil Pump that reels us in and makes us wanna learn to speak the language of love ourselves.
Chance The Rapper - Hot Shower
Chance's The Best Day was a little delayed last week so it's landed in this week's list. Hot Shower is the most polarising cut on the record but we are hear for Chance's semi-nonsensical verses and another stellar performance from Da Baby.
Hermitude - OneFourThree (Feat. Buddy & BJ The Chicago Kid)
Hermitude have enlisted two of the best MCs around right now in Buddy and BJ The Chicago Kid. They both jump on this wobbly, Kaytranada-flavoured beat and give Hermitude one of their grooviest cuts in years.
BROCKHAMPTON - I Been Born Again
BROCKHAMPTON are back edging towards their next album Ginger and I Been Born Again kicks the campaign off. It's one of their most damning songs yet giving us a largely hookless rap flex over a minimal beat.
Channel Tres - Black Moses (Feat. JPEGMAFIA)
Fresh from a Splendour visit, Channel Tres is back dropping the heat. This time, he's slowed the BPM and gone hip-hop-meets-Daft-Punk with a little help from rap's most intriguing character JPEGMAFIA.
Lil Durk - Extravagant (Feat. Nicki Minaj)
Nicki and Lil Durk collide for the second time in a week. The first was on Chance's Slide Around, now they're together on Extravagant. Nicki is in features mode right now and absolutely kills it here, switching up flows at a rapid rate.
Rapsody - Ibtihaj (Feat. D'Angelo & GZA)
D'Angelo doesn't just hand out features so you know this has gotta be pretty special. Rapsody is worth it. The underrated MC delivers a rock-steady, soulful performance on the flawless Ibtihaj.
