Hip-hop music comes faster than any other genre. It's not uncommon for a rapper to drop upwards of three projects a year and while that's great, it becomes increasingly hard to stay on top of it. 'The Rap Wrap' is our attempt to keep you in the know on the weekly. This week, we're giving you new Ty Dolla $ign and J. Cole plus a new Chance The Rapper verse on an Ed Sheeran cut.
Ed Sheeran - Cross Me (Feat. PnB Rock & Chance The Rapper)
We didn't think we'd ever be including Ed Sheeran in this weekly feature but here we are. He's teamed with PnB Rock and Chance The Rapper for this latest cut off his upcoming collaborations record. Somehow, Chance delivers his most inspired verse in ages here while PnB delivers a slick, chopped hook.
Ty Dolla $ign - Purple Emoji (Feat. J. Cole)
After delivering stellar features for nearly everyone on the planet, Ty re-emerges in solo mode, tapping Cole on the feature. It's as good as it sounds, giving us soulful Ty verses and one of Cole's most carefree verses in a while.
Young Thug - The London (feat. J.Cole & Travis Scott)
It's Young Thug's first release of the year and it's a triple-header featuring J.Cole and Travis in a slick downbeat rap song. The three work well together and we're hoping this is the start of a beautiful collaborative relationship.
Denzel Curry - Speedboat
Denzel is already gearing up to follow-up last year's TA13OO and Speedboat is a spectacular taste. He sounds weightless, laying down realtively smooth bars for Curry. This week, it was announced that he's heading down under for Listen Out. Don't miss him.
Flying Lotus - Yellow Belly (Feat. Tierra Whack)
If you've read this feature a few times you'll know our love for Tierra Whack is undying. She gives another unforgettable performance on this dizzying cut from Flying Lotus' excellent new album Flamagra.
BlocBoy JB - Mercedes
This is actually the first BlocBoy cut of the year but it's worth the weight. Mercedes is a playful, braggadocious flex that further proves his role as one of the most entertaining MCs in rap right now.
Shenseea - Blessed (Feat. Tyga)
If you're not around Shenseea, catch up. She's one of the most exciting artists in the dancehall scene right now and she featured on Christian Aguilera and Santigold records this year. Now she's ready for solo world domination and Blessed is an inspired glow-up.
