Just as Music seemed to be at its dullest the news breaks that Primal Scream will be releasing new music. Here’s the single “2013” which proves they are back trying again:
Their career needs little further discussion but I put it to the audience that the fact that they care so much counts for more than the music itself (not that that has been bad).
They are 100% unashamedly Rock n’ Roll and they love it AND the lifestyle. Which made this story about one of their greatest singles “Rocks” a peculiar pleasure and well worth repeating:
“Rocks?” splutters Innes. “I didn’t even know we’d written it!”
At first I assume he’s joking but it turns out he’s deadly serious.
“[Alan] McGee phoned us up going: "You’ve got a great song,” and I thought: what the fuck are you talking about?“
"I can definitely remember recording it,” adds Gillespie, as if this deserves some kind of prize”
And don’t forget this is the same band who once had a member get stabbed in the arse in a New York city bar and be out of it enough to not realise until he woke up the following day! Oh we could continue with Scream stories for hours (and hours!).
And THAT is why I really, truly hope that “More Light” turns out to be a ripper. We need them in the war against Bieber and PitBull.
