Unfortunately we couldn’t make it to SXSW this year but luckily for us (and you guys!) we’ve got a few roving reporters out in the field who will be documenting their travels! Asho, Co-manager of Busby Marou continues on with part 2 of the boys American & Canadian adventures.
WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS ROCK N ROLL WOULD SAVE US ALL.
Welcome to part two of the blog of my mad musical tour of the US. Monday in LA was one of the most surreal days that I remember in my very fortunate existence. I spent the day with my partner in crime, Denise from Q Music as we proudly sell the idea of BIGSOUND to the LA music community.
The key moments worth sharing……
Discussing whether Stevie Wonder liked long distance flights with the President of Death Row Records and he calls Smoky Robinson for input.
Bumping into Robbie Williams for the first time in many years in a beergarden.
Ben Lee playing us his new recording inspired by Ayahuasca. (google it)..
Just ridiculous stuff.
Then we fly to Austin…
Then first day at SXSW always inspires a certain amount of adrenalin rarely found elsewhere in life. Our dinner plans were postponed so we rang local luminary, Ben Kweller to see if he was free. He kindly invited us to a house party he was playing to raise money for cancer research and was a wonderful host and put on a great show. Then back to town for some great British music. I saw Future Of The Left for the first time and can’t believe I haven’t invested more love and time into them until now. It was like Fugazi meets Stiff Little Fingers. Then Frank Turner ripped through a set that left tears streaming down my face as he sang “I Still Believe In The Saints”.
Gotta go - night #2 is about to begin.
