The build-up to Saweetie's debut LP continues with the Californian rapper's new six-song collection, THE SINGLE LIFE. As the title indicates, the songs on Saweetie's latest project centre on the artist's feelings of pride and empowerment as a single woman.
THE SINGLE LIFE begins with the new single 'DON'T SAY NOTHIN'', in which the dexterous rapper exhorts, "Don't you tell nobody we f*ckin." 'DON'T SAY NOTHIN'' is representative of Saweetie's determination to take hold of her narrative and offload anyone who thinks they can make decisions on her behalf.
Track two, 'BO$$ CHICK', continues in this vein, with Saweetie laying down bars of sheer confidence over a club-trap beat from producers Thurdi and Aaron Bow.
J White Did It takes charge of the faders for track three, flipping a sample of Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Juicy' – itself built on a sample from Mtume's 1983 song 'Juicy Fruit' – for the anthem-in-waiting 'P.U.S.S.Y. (Powerful, Utopia, Supreme, Sacred, Yummy)'.
Before the beat drops at the beginning of 'P.U.S.S.Y.', Saweetie can be heard saying, "Honestly, havin' a pussy is so powerful." She spends the next three minutes flaunting the fruits of this power, boasting in the chorus of how "Pussy make the world go 'round."
'HANDLE MY TRUTH', 'MEMORABLE' and 'NO RECEPTION' complete the six-song THE SINGLE LIFE, the release of which caps off another blockbuster year for the rapper and actor also known as Diamonté Harper.
Saweetie's debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, is set for release in 2023. The album build-up has already given rise to several multi-platinum singles for Saweetie, including 2020's 'Tap In' and 'Best Friend' (featuring Doja Cat), as well this year's 'Closer' (featuring H.E.R.). 'Best Friend' was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 2022 Grammy Awards, where Saweetie also received a nom for Best New Artist.
