Daddy Yankee has been crowned the number one artist on Spotify clocking up 44,735,586 monthly listens.

That figure sees him overtake previous number ones Drake and Ed Sheeran, making him the first Latin artist to ever reach the peak.

Before this year, most would associate Daddy Yankee with his 2004 track Gasolina but Despacito has put him back on the map, in Australia at least.

While he may have not had any hits in Australia, he's reached the top 10 of the US Hot Latin Songs chart 14 times since Gasolina. 

The original of Despacito has been streamed 542 million times while the Justin Bieber remix has been streamed 569 million times. That would've certainly helped his rise to the top.
