London duo Gorgon City, the producers and DJs individually known as RackNRuin and Foamo, have just finished a trip around Australia with their labelmates Rudimental off the back of their Real EP. Bringing their mutual backgrounds in hip hop, grime and jungle to bear on “deeper, sexier sounds”. We grabbed some time with the guys while they were in the country – ahead of their return for Future Music Festival next March – to get the nitty gritty on what we need to know about them.

    1. Gorgon City was never meant to be an on-going project

“Initially it was just a one-off collaboration. We had the idea when we were DJing together, as we were on the same line-ups quite a lot… The session went really well and we decided to create a new project together as it felt we were creating something with its own sound and identity.”

    2. The new project came about from their obsession with house

“We’ve both been DJing and producing since our early-teens, and we both were into similar sounds – like jungle, garage, grime and hip hop. As we got older we got into house music and now all of our influences are directed at making a unique modern house sound.”

    3. They’re pretty excited about their upcoming album

“Our album is going to feature a lot of amazing new vocalists and artists. We’re really excited about it and it’s been so amazing to work with such great talent. It’s going to be dance music but hopefully it’ll appeal to everyone.”

    4. They can’t wait for Future Music Festival

“The Australian tour with Rudimental was amazing! It was an honour to be involved in such a sick tour. We’ve been mates with the band for a while and they made us feel very welcome so it was a great vibe. Yasmin joined us for the second half of it which injected a new energy into our shows. We did a few amazing side shows as well, Revolver in Melbourne was a big highlight. Thanks to Future Music and Neon Records for having us! We can’t wait to come back in March.”

    5. Their favourite tipple is caffeinated

“We like our tea, but when it comes to Gorgon City – coffee is definitely a bigger part of our production operation…”

Bonus Beat - While they were out here on the Rudimental tour we took the guys record shopping at Mojo Records and got the guys to do up a live version of ‘Real’ featuring Yasmin on vocals… Such a tune!
