From the owner of the Rockhouse hotel in Jamaica and founder of Joe’s Pub, the brothers who are all about Bungalow 8, 1Oak and The Box, and the guy who put his style stamp all over a bunch of popular downtown hangs like La Esquina & Café Select, lies a little slice of the Caribbean in Greenwich Village, New York.
Miss Lily’s Variety is a boutique record-store dressed up in a West Indian theme, featuring a radio DJ in one corner, a Juice-Box out one door and a restaurant out another. The space pays tribute to the colourful nature we all associate with the music, apparel & art of the Caribbean, and sets itself apart from the average record store, with all its extra bits & pieces, namely its internet radio station Radio Lily bringing beats not just to the interwebs, but also to the Variety store, juice box and restaurant next door. For all little afternoon reggae, tune in to Radio Lily here.
They say it well; the whole set up is ‘an island vacation in the middle of a busy city’. Whether it is an afternoon of sipping on some of Marvin’s juice in a tropical escape you desire, or a little themed retail therapy you are after, Miss Lily’s Variety has limited edition, hard-to-find vinyl of all sizes, a pop art Jamaican artwork for your friends housewarming, or a random Caribbean snack. Go for bottomless-brunch next door at Miss Lily’s, or grab a juice from Melvin next door, and swing by the Variety store. It’s certainly variet-ous.
