Troye Sivan isn't afraid of sharing a laugh - even when it's at his own expense.

He took to Twitter to tell a story about how he and his manager, Dani Russin, were contacted by environmental activist Greta Thunberg's father, who spoke to Dani about a hypothetical project called 'Stars Save The Earth.'

The project involved Greta working with celebrities on a range of environmental activities, including swimming with sharks with Leonardo DiCaprio and saving animals in Africa with Prince Harry.

The only catch? It was all made up.

Dani eventually handed over Troye's number to "Greta" and they started chatting.

Speaking in the video, Troye recalls the moment they realised they were being tricked - with Dani's boyfriend raising the red flag. “They go on YouTube and they start searching for interviews of Greta Thunberg’s dad, and they listen to these interviews, and Dani’s just like, ‘That is not the voice that I heard on the phone today."

He says it was a humbling moment, saying, “I died laughing. To me, this was the most hysterical thing. The fact that my ego was big enough to be like, ‘Yeah, Greta Thunberg kind of wants to chill, she’s a big fan, she wants to save the planet together.’ It just completely mortified me and made me want to die and also cry laughing.”

Check out the full exchange below - it's absolutely hilarious, and a reminder that some things might just be too good to be true.
