Now living in Perth though he grew up in Zimbabwe, T$oko (pronounced tee-soh-koh) is another Aussie rapper on the rise this year and we're stoked to premiere his video for his latest track, HOPE, today.
Off his brand new EP Time which dropped only last week, HOPE is an introspective gem, showcasing the vulnerabilities many immigrants face when picking up their lives and moving overseas in search of a better life.
T$oko explains candidly of the song, "Fear makes you a prisoner and hope sets you free. I have had to endure a lot of setbacks, disappointments, memories and moments, and in time these are the Things I Must Endure (TIME) and stay hopeful."
Of the video, he adds, "I enlisted Rakim who I have worked with on a few last of my videos. He shot Rudeboi and Hitachi Remix. We wanted to recreate how I felt at the point in time when I wrote the song. HOPE was a reflection of thoughts on my life, music, work and everything that makes up my time here. It was the first song I wrote for this project and it just opened me up to giving the audience more of my story rather than just making a project full of singles for the radio."
