    Whethan

Chicago producer Whethan is on a roll right now. Over the past year and a bit he's clocked up an impressive discography with a huge list of collaborators that includes Dua Lipa, Broods, Charli XCX and Oh Wonder.

Today, he's added to that list, dropping his new single Radar with British duo Honne. It's another effortless piece of electronica and one that's going to sound extra smooth comes Aussie festival season.

Whethan is due to hit the country later this year for a slew of festivals including Perth's Origin Fields and Sydney's Field Day.

Ahead of the visit we asked him a few quick questions. Check out the answers and the new song below.

When did you start producing and how did you start? Reportedly you were playing with Garageband one day?

I started playing with GarageBand on an iPad when I was twelve. I shortly moved to Ableton after that and am still currently using it. I feel most comfortable on Ableton and I think it’s a great DAW for getting really creative with your music.

You’ve noted that when you were starting out, Flume was one of your biggest influences, but now you’ve spread your musical horizons to a lot more genres. What are some musicians inspiring you at the moment?

I’ve been drawing a lot of influence lately from artists like Justice, Calvin Harris, and Disclosure. I’ve been loving the four on the floor energy and I think these artists are great examples to draw influence from.

You’ve teamed up with many prominent acts like Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, ZAYN and Broods, what has been your favourite collaboration so far and why?

I’d say my favorite collaboration would be my song with Broods because I was so happy with the outcome. Sonically the song was exactly was what I was going for and I also love Broods and their vibe. It was overall just a really great experience.

You’ve also got a song out with Oh Wonder, tell us about the writing process behind that.

I had a great time working with Oh Wonder because everything came super natural. We were able to make music we both enjoy. Right from the start I knew that they were people I could connect with musically and I think Superlove is a great example of that.

The video for Superlove is definitely very unique and unexpected, is this an idea you came up with? Do you have dogs of your own?

I liked the idea of reversed roles between dogs and humans. For the song Superlove I wanted to do something unexpected and weird and also I have a family dog named Dexter so I’m definitely a big fan of dogs.

How do you personally discover new music these days?

I love to search for music in any way but I definitely use Spotify a lot for discovery.  I like diving deep into Spotify through related artists and finding new music. I’ll also find music in other ways like Soundcloud or my friends sending me music. I really just try to absorb as much music as possible.
